Xx Marketing- AS xX

On my blogger, I have set up various ways of marketing my thriller.
By setting up social networking sites such as filming to my space as well as you tube. The purpose behind this was to engage the target audiences so that our film would be distributed amongst people and ratings increased.

For my blogger, I have set up various ways of marketing my thriller.
For example, setting up social networking sites such as uploading my film to Myspace as well as You Tube. The purpose behind this was to engage the target audiences so that our film would be distributed amongst people and ratings increased.

As Nibiru, is a low budget independent thriller due to insufficient funding this has meant that advertising and distribution has been a challenging process. As a result, if this was a real UK independent film we would ask for funding from P and A (print and advertising) in order to gain the funds needed for advertising and marketing schemes.

Additionally, due to this we found the internet was the most cost effective way of engaging our audience. Through this system we were able to create widgets an example from Lesbain Vampire Killers, and games in order to make our film more exiting and appeal to our audiences.

Another way of making our audience aware of our film is to send Nibiru to the International Festival Institution in order to get our film played and therefore people aware of it to increase viewings. This is another way of widening our distribution through a marketing campaign.

If this film was able to obtain a release cycle to be watched in cinemas, due to its low budget and only being a small independent UK film. I feel it would be aired in small cinemas in rural areas such as the Duke of York in Brighton, instead of in the CBD or central of London such as leister square where films such as the Dark knight would be more appropriate to be aired.

The marketing campaigns on my blog are a small proportion of the ideas of types of marketing schemes that could be used to gain the audiences attention for the film.

Game

Make a free flash game!

This game was set up as a marketing campaign to enable the audience to beocme aware of the film and entice them in wathcing the film. It is a simple working game thereofre it is appropriate for all ages, widening the target audience and distribution.

My space is a way of social networking in which to make the target audiences aware of our film, such as young adults between 20-30. We have put up the opening sequence for our thriller and the poster on the myspace and we are planning on advertising any film festivals, news, and screenings on it.

Xx evaluation of comments xX

Comments taken from members outside school:
"Nice switch from microcosm to the macrocosm and a nice idea since that occurs to everyone at some point (which is why it appears in futurama). Sound was ok, but really had no idea where the film was going. Like all of the imagery, but think it would have done better with needles than the running girl (certainly worked for Resident Evil) if you want to concentrate on the science aspect rather than character in the opening."

This comment shows that the transition between the neck to the red blood cells was effective and appealed to our target Market audience. Having said this, I agree that the sound track did not quite read to the audience, as this comment states “they did not know where the narrative was going.” Additionally, we could have rearranged the editing to make the needles first after the girl running however I feel the running order of the narrative is effective as it begins the sequence as ambiguous enticing the audience.

"It's way to chopy. do away with the ball pendulums and stick with a specific focus. I liked the aztec parts. Try useing FXhome for your effects. The blood to planets works but could be aproched diffrently. Try useing a spilled blood consept. Zoom into the blood makeing a clean smooth change to the blood cells and slowly morf the cells to your planets. Do away with the explotion, and use a more syphony based type of music stay away from the techno it's to industrial sounding."

I agree with the comment that the sequence is too choppy; however the Newton’s balls are essential to show the passage of time and change in the earth’s atmosphere within this change of time zoom. This person has a good suggestion of using a spilled blood concept for the transitions between shots making a clear zoom into the blood to than change to the red blood cells that the transform into the planets, in order to enhance precision and make it neater and therefore more effective. If I was to recreate my film again, I would take this into account and change my film in this manner. I agree, I did not like the explosion in our work however we found that this was the best transition shot that could be used to change from blood cells to planets. However, with a different approach such as this, I feel the film could be improved upon.

"It definitely works for me, nice work!if i had to be critical the switch from the blood cells to the solar system could be smoother."

This was a positive response, and shows that it appealed to our target audience, the transitions between the switch from blood cells to solar system was again criticised therefore, if I was to complete or change my film I would make this aspect smoother.

Commments taken from inside school:

"Very nice and intense special effect! Evoke my attention tatally. Nice and strong back ground music but does'nt give enough indication of what would happen next and what is going on. But good stuff overall!"

This comment shows that a peer liked our piece of work, and therefore addressed our target audience as she sates “evoked her attention.” The background music again appears to not express the narrative of the story well and therefore the audience is left confused. Not a good way to leave a film, therefore if created again I would consider changing the aspect of the soundtrack.
This is similar to real media life in the industry, where a member of the same community and film would review a film with positive comments on social networks such as You Tube enticing other members of the public to review the film. This scheme is known as ‘Astroturfing.’

"I thought the transitiong from the blood to the red blood cells was really good and the use of animation was extremely effective. Also the credits and the way the opening was edited in time with the music worked really well."

In comparison to other outside Hurtwood viewers, my peer liked the transition between the blood cells as well as the animation. The titles were also commended, which I felt worked well and connected to the timed moments and sound track well.

Overall, the majoriry of our comments were positive, however I will take on the constructive critiscm and as said if I was to create Nibiru again i would incorporate these into my film in order to imrpove and earn it a 5 star rating.

Xx Statistics on distribution xX

These statistics’s show that our film is distributing and targeting the predicted
target audience. This fact is portrayed through the demographics chart:

Males 57%
Female 43%
This demonstrates that our thriller appeals to a more masculine audience rather than a female based one as predicted.

Additionally the chart shows that that the ages range between,

18-24
25-34 (being the most popular)

This shows that the majority of our distributors are of a middle age and therefore our certificate of over 15s was accurate as no one under this age has specifically chosen to watch this film.

This shows that our prediction of our target audience was accurate and therefore shows our film was clear on its distribution and focused on our target audience
.

Xx Statistics on distribution of countrys xX

These statitics portray the global distribution of our film. It demonstrates our film was viewed nationally, for example being produced and viewed in the UK; however it was also viewed internationally around the world such as in Australia.
This was both a predicted as well as non predicted distribution as I new the UK would view it due to ‘you tube’ as well as watching a national film, having said this
I did not imagine Australia would due to the long distance. Having said this, the statistical diagram shows that parts of America had viewed the film; this could consequently be a result of a language barrier and therefore the diagram shows that only countries that with an English understanding have viewed the film.

Xx Directors comentary- script and plan xX

1. We wanted to create a sci-fi thriller about the end of the world.
2. The opening sequence causes suspense and tension and entices the audience into the rest of the piece.
3. In terms of production we wanted to establish two main themes throughout Nibiru, historical and scientific
4. During the sequence, we only needed one main character. A young Female victim to evoke sympathy from the audience she is panicking and running which creates tension and ambiguity to the audience as they don’t know the reason behind her panic
5. We wanted to convey passage of time therefore we cut the shots in a fast pace of editing to add to the tension.
6. There was a change in the time of the metronome to portray the change in atmosphere this was achieved through a close up of the Newton’s balls clicking out of sync
7. When the protagonist was running there was a tracking shot to be next with prosthetic burns, which we made out of latex glue and corn syrup blood, we specifically changed the pace of editing to a longer manipulation through long shot. To create a contrasting relaxed atmosphere inside the blood cells.
8. We used an explosion as a transition shot in order to change into the planet sequence, we used after effects for this process therefore a fast zoom through the universe was created. There were moments of contrasting zooms such as fast and slow, created by increasing and decreasing the speed of the zoom. The purpose of this was to show abnormalities in the solar system and the passage of time

9. During this we changed the textures and colours of the planets to add to the abnormalities and unfamiliarity’s of the traditional universe

10. The majority of the production was made on adobe after effects, as we wanted to demonstrate surrealism and provide a unique selling point, enabling Nibiru to appeal to a wider distribution of the demographic profile therefore increasing its number of viewers.
